It’s a grasshopper, or some kind of locust! Not as bad as a cockroach, but what a surprise to see in the city. They usually like fields and grasslands.
@ally-I agree with you, after looking at some images, that it is some sort of cricket. I didn’t hear any noises, but it is in the basement garage bathroom so I probably wouldn’t. My first though was katydid…

I think it is what we call a click beetle, has a very hard body. 🙂

It’s not a grasshopper, it’s a cricket, possibly of the Gryllidae family.

@Then – Chief among the many differences between grasshoppers and crickets is antennae length.
