In NZ we go one better than that and round to the nearest 10 cents when paying cash. The coin denominations are $2, $1, 50c, 20c, and 10c. It makes for a lot less change cluttering the place up.

I figure it all works out in the end. I hated 1p and 2p coins in the UK and US pennies. They are nearly worthless anyway.
