We took another taxi across town to Tenryū-ji temple, which was also highly recommended and a UNESCO World Heritage Site as well.
The temple was founded in 1339 and completed in 1345.
The buildings and surrounding gardens were a peaceful place and, although busy, weren’t as hectic and rushed as Kinkaku-ji. We saw raked pebble gardens, students studying calligraphy, monks, and marvelled at the incredibly well crafted buildings of wood, paper and tile.
